Upholstery in Egham

Fabric first

The cleaning code on the platform label decides the method: W fabrics take a wet clean, S fabrics need solvent and we will say so rather than chance it. Loose covers that fit in a machine are often better washed, and we will tell you that too, even though it costs us the job.

What comes out

Body oils on arms and headrests, food, most drink spills. Old sun fading and worn nap are not dirt, and no cleaner shifts them.

Drying

A sofa is usable the same evening. We leave cushions propped so air gets to both faces.

Affinity Water supplies TW20 off chalk aquifers and the water is hard, with company-wide averages around 268 ppm. Rinse water leaves visible scale, and wool carpets need a neutralising rinse rather than plain mains water.

Mattresses are priced separately: see mattress cleaning.

Questions we get asked

How do I know whether my sofa can be wet cleaned?

Look at the label under the seat cushions. W means it takes a water based clean, S means solvent only, X means vacuum only. We check it ourselves before touching anything, and where the label has gone we test a hidden panel first. A two seater is £57 and an armchair £33.

Will it smell of anything afterwards?

Faintly damp for a few hours, then nothing. We do not add perfume, deliberately, because scent is what gets used to cover a job that has not shifted the actual soil. Where a sofa smells of pet or smoke, that is in the filling as much as the fabric, and we will be straight about how far a clean gets.

My cushion covers unzip. Should I just wash them instead?

Often, yes, and we will tell you so even though it costs us the job. Loose covers that fit in a machine usually wash better than they clean. The catch is shrinkage, and covers that went on tight when new can be a fight to get back. Wash one and see before you do the whole set.

How soon can we sit on it?

The same evening. We work at lower pressure than on carpet so the filling does not get soaked, and the cushions are left propped on edge so air reaches both faces. Leather is a different trade with different products, and we will say so rather than experiment on yours and hope.
